Electrical Engineering Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Electrical Manager is responsible for all the activities involving electrical & instrumentation for an efficient cement plant operation. This includes primarily maintaining/improving plant electrical system, along with the management of field supervisors and bargaining unit employees.

In addition, the Electrical Manager will perform the functions as described below and must have the desired skills, experience and aptitude:

  1. Understand mechanical/electrical design, operation, and starting of induction, wound rotor, synchronous, and DC motors.

  2. Understand instrumentation: Analog vs. digital signals, 4-20 MA current loops, temperature sending, pressure sending, control loops, etc.

  3. Electrical construction: Breaker/wire, conduit sizing, motor sizing, conduit fittings, conduit accessories, electrical device ordering.

  4. CEM and environmental analyzers maintenance, regulations, and testing/calibration testing procedures.

  5. Electrical distribution: 115kV/110V, transformers, breakers, relays, MV contactors, battery systems, UPS, 5KV MCC, 480V MCC.

  6. Plant automation system: understands and able to apply concepts of HMI systems (WonderWare, InTouch). He/She will be asked to work closely with the Automation/Instrumentation specialist.

  7. Variable frequency driver (VFD) and DC drive theory/troubleshooting/experience.

  8. Annual/quarterly/monthly/weekly electrical reliability planning.

  9. Outage budgeting and planning.

  10. Develops and implements appropriate electrical/electronic PM’s and inspections.

  11. Monitor new technologies and possible technical improvements.

  12. Must comply with company safety rules and regulations (MSHA) and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.

  13. Serve on interview panels for the selection of candidates for hire (as necessary).

  14. Perform annual and semi-annual performance reviews

  15. Conduct and/or provide input into performance evaluations, recommendations for promotions, lateral changes, demotions, and disciplinary actions to include employee terminations.

  16. Provide work leadership and/or direction and schedule work in order to meet organizational and operational goals, objectives, and deadlines.

  17. Review deficiencies and technical issues of the electrical systems and instrumentation to correct them.

  18. Work closely with the mechanical department and production department to achieve common goals.

  19. Develop procedures to operate on electrical systems and for their maintenance during plant’s outages and daily operation of the plant.

  20. Assist his manager to perform cost-benefit reviews of the department’s budget.

  21. Support Automation Specialist in maintaining programming on Programmable Logic Controllers.

  22. Support Automation Specialist to develop applications and maintain Communication Networks for industrial applications.

  23. Endorse development of objectives for his department with his manager in compliance with the plant’s objectives.

  24. Provide electrical support, when needed, to production department during nights and weekends

  25. Other duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelors of Electrical Engineering

  • Industrial Electrical experience (10 yrs minimum)

  • Must have previous supervisory or managerial experience

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical manuals and blueprints

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze failures and implement effective corrective solutions

  • Exercise independent decision-making, prioritize conflicting demands.

  • Effective communication skills to influence all levels of personnel and to create change

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to influence safety practices and initiatives

  • Ability to work as a team member with strong time management and record keeping skills

  • Able to conduct area/job inspections to ensure work completed without defects and is in compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements

  • Must have knowledge of industrial plant electrical/instrumentation/automation concepts/applications

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, JDE, AutoCad, CMMS)

  • Good understanding of procurement policies including contract administration

  • Must have availability to work some nights/weekends and off-hour call outs

  • Ability to access all areas of the plant as required in order to perform duties of the position

  • Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English language, communicate positively with employees, customers and vendors at all levels.

  • Must be able to see and hear safety indicators and warnings

  • Pass required physical examination and drug screens.

  • Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry, dusty and near hot kiln process.

  • Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground).

  • Climb stairs and ladders as high as 400 feet in elevation

  • Physical ability to climb on equipment to provide supervision during work

  • Drive vehicle to various work locations.

  • Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs and stockpiles, stoop, crawl under and into enclosed spaces.
